How It Works:
Spontaneous Architecture:
Immediate and participatory work within the architecture and design community.
The Competition:
Monthly image submission contest judged by a jury of peer participants. Entry images are quick and dirty responses to current architectural and urban questions.
The Winner:
The winner is determined through the voting of each month's participants. No entrant may vote for their own submission. The winner receives a monetary prize: half of the entry fee proceeds collected for that month. In the case of multiple winners, the prize will be split equally among the winners. (Please read the Transparency page for more information on entry fee proceeds.) Winners are also featured on the Spontaneous Architecture website. Winners must provide original, high-resolution image files upon request.
The Discussion:
A public discussion of the topic and submitted images will be hosted by RAPID RESPONSE at Studio-X. Participants are encouraged to attend RAPID RESPONSE on the last Tuesday of every month. (Studio-X, 180 Varick Street Suite 1610, New York City)
The Monthly Timeline:
(Day 1) Previous Month's Winner announced / New Competition Brief released on the 1st of every month.
(Day 15) Image Submissions due by 11:59PM EST on the 15th of every month.
(Day 16) Voting begins at 12:01AM EST on the 16th of every month.
(Day 20) Voting ends at 11:59PM EST on the 20th of every month.

Image Guidelines:
(1) One image. 8.5 inches by 11 inches. Landscape oriented. TIFF format at 300dpi. 100mb limit.
(2) Images must be anonymous (containing no identification of the entrant in the image).
(3) Images may (but are not required to) contain up to 100 words of text.
(4) Submissions are due by 11:59PM EST on the 15th of every month.
Rights:
Competition participants retain exclusive rights to their images, except as they relate to Spontaneous Architecture. Submission to the competition gives the organizers of Spontaneous Architecture permission to reproduce images for Spontaneous Architecture-related exhibition and/or publication.

Steps for Participation:
From the 1st through the 15th of each month (all three steps must be complete by 11:59PM EST on the 15th of the month):
Click the ENTER THE COMPETITION tab at the top of the page.
1: Entry Form & Image Upload - Enter your details into the Entry Form. All fields are required - please answer all fields to the best of your ability. Upload your image by clicking the Browse button. Please refer to the Image Guidelines above. Participants who have submitted in previous months must complete all steps again for any new competition. Once you have completed all entry fields and uploaded your image, Click Submit.
2: Entry Fee - After clicking Submit, follow the on-screen instructions to submit your $5.00 Entry Fee. Payment is made through credit card and is securely handled by Amazon Payments. If you reside in a country not serviced by Amazon Payments and would like to participate in the competition, please email competitions@spontaneousarchitecture.net. Click the Amazon button.
You will receive a confirmation email from Amazon Payments once Steps 1 & 2 are complete. This email validates your participation in this month's Competition.
From the 16th through the 20th of each month (voting must be completed by 11:59PM EST on the 20th of the month):
3: VOTE - Participants are welcomed to vote on the month's submissions in order to determine that month's competition winner. Image submissions will be featured in the Gallery.
